We've been here long enough now to budget our costs realistically. Our initial cost estimate wasn't too bad. Some costs are lower in practice (administration, labor), others are higher (food, vehicle maintenance, and entertainment).

Included in our estimated ongoing monthly costs of EUR 7,400 are:

  • the costs of working with BANDA Health (main travel expenses)
  • the costs of Lisa's work (travel expenses and documents)
  • Salary for David and Lisa
  • Costs of family life in Dagoretti that are not covered by salary (accommodation, school, etc.)
  • Payroll taxes in Austria and Kenya, as well as administrative fees paid to our partner organizations

There were also one-off costs incurred due to the relocation, primarily for the flight, the purchase of cars and the furnishing of the apartment.
