What are you actually doing there?
In countries with inadequate healthcare play so-called „Health Ministries“Health services play a vital role. They are often the only providers of care for poor people, who make up a large part of the population. These providers themselves struggle with the challenge of very scarce resources.”.
BANDA Health The aim is to support these health ministries (initially in East Africa and then worldwide) with process consulting and software to help them manage their scarce resources more efficiently. More efficient providers can provide better and more affordable care to more patients.
David He has taken over organizational and business development at BANDA Health so that BANDA Health can meet the growing demand, building and expanding relationships with churches and their health ministries and contributing his experience in hospital administration in the form of consulting.
Lisa She works with Naomi's Village, a children's home with a school. She trains the staff in how to deal with traumatized children. She also provides pastoral care for staff and children/students. In addition, she teaches two hours a week at the children's school.
What are they doing? Children?
The children attend an English-speaking international school. It was a difficult adjustment for them at first, but they adapted remarkably quickly to the language and culture. Noemi has settled in well, while Layla still sometimes struggles with homesickness.
Aren't you also needed in Austria?
We fundamentally believe that there is need EVERYWHERE, and that EVERYONE can help almost anywhere. At the same time, we are convinced that every person has combinations of skills, talents, and experiences that make them MORE SUITABLE for a particular type of work in a specific environment.
There are many capable and wonderful people in Austria who can make a real difference. We believe that we can now use our experience for a while. in East Africa… not just to give! We believe that we can learn a lot here and that this experience will also benefit our whole family.
Is this development work or a mission?
From our perspective, mission is as diverse as the people it aims to reach. The care of both body and soul was perfected by none other than Jesus Christ himself. In Isaiah 58, we also read of God's desire that we all... also to care for the physical needs of our fellow human beings.
The local churches run mission hospitals and clinics (Health Ministries) to serve needy people in their communities, following Jesus' example. If we collaborate with these churches to make their missionary work more effective, then what are we?
Why Kenya?
There are people in need all over the world who require our help. But you have to start somewhere. We've always felt a strong connection to East Africa and have prepared accordingly for potential service in this region. With BANDA Health, we've found an organization that also focuses on East Africa. Its headquarters are in Nairobi, Kenya. The decision to locate near Nairobi also has strategic reasons:
- The necessary infrastructure is available here to realize a project with these ambitions (trained specialists, reasonably stable electricity and internet supply).
- Sufficient demand for pilot projects in the immediate vicinity (see Health system Kenya)
- A logistics hub for travel in the East Africa region
- A largely safe living environment for our children with the opportunity to attend good schools until graduation, and all without boarding school.
What motivates you to do what we do?
We (David and Lisa) are from two sides motivated:
- The desire to follow our Lord Jesus Christ in his mercy and to care for the soul and body of the needy.
- We see the plight of the people and want to actively help with our abilities.
How is all of this financed?
