Ready to go

BANDA Health, the organization I (David) work for, is undergoing a transformation. Since the beginning of the year, the number of patients in the "Banda Go" software system has increased more than tenfold! Demand is so high that we now need to start focusing on specific clinics. With our limited resources, we can't serve every hospital, so we now have to consider whether larger mission hospitals, in addition to smaller clinics, should still be part of our target group. Through my Arrival in the team, The range of advisory services is also to be expanded.

Last week's board meeting focused primarily on clearly defining the target group and prioritizing clinics. The result? Focus! Focus on small clinics that serve the poorest members of the population.
It's great to see how our team, scattered all over the world, pulls together and makes visible progress. That has made me even more enthusiastic about the job!

This week my work finally kicks off in full! Nevertheless, I'll continue working on my language skills and still have a lot to learn about the culture, the healthcare system, and the hospitals. My main task over the next few months will be to compile a "best practice" portfolio from various clinics and hospitals, which will form the basis for Banda Health's future hospital consulting services. For me, this means visiting many hospitals and using targeted questions to find out how standard processes work on-site. I will gather the answers and try to integrate Western know-how into the existing processes in the best possible way, making it understandable for the target group – a dream assignment for me!

Approach, understand, experience…

Adjectives that describe our activities over the past four months. In short: We're getting to know the language, the culture, the people, and the country; learning to survive traffic; establishing new routines; and much more. And we're doing surprisingly well! Here are a few impressions:

Sportfriends?

Two years ago, I (Lisa) met a team in Kenya whose goal was to help church communities to build a Ministry of Sport* to get it off the ground. Not primarily for the sake of sport itself, but because of the idea of using sport as an intercultural tool to build relationships with kids who so desperately need role models. The idea really appealed to me back then, and two years later I found myself sitting next to a young man in Kariobangi, one of the slums in Nairobi.

Harambe at school!

„"Harambe" is Swahili and means "pulling together" for the well-being of our children. This motto is truly lived out at our girls' school, the West Nairobi School. We are thrilled with the teachers who tailor motivational tools to each child and not only teach them reading, writing, and arithmetic, but also work on their character development and emotional intelligence. In addition, some mothers meet every two weeks to pray for the students and teachers – I am convinced it's effective! How wonderful it would be to see more and more schools in Austria and the surrounding area where people consciously pray together! Interested? Then take a look at the website of Moms in Prayer.
