Advent in Kijabe

We've been here for a little over a month now. Kijabe and we feel truly gifted and blessed. It's a wonderful place and has so much to offer professionally, academically, socially, and of course, in general. We live affordably in a huge house with a beautiful garden, which is... Naomi's Village (the children's home where Lisa works) was built. Children's school And many of their friends are just a few minutes' walk away. They can move around freely and only have to fear baboons, unlike in Nairobi, where they couldn't leave the house unsupervised.

The village is historically centered around the school and the hospital (Kijabe Mission Hospital) has grown around it. Many more schools have since been established here, along with services such as the Moffat Bible College, Cure Hospital and Care of Creation They have established their headquarters here. This leads to a lot of coming and going, and Kijabe has a good reputation throughout the country for safety and honesty.

Advent is absolutely the best time to arrive in Kijabe because there's a tradition where each evening a different family opens their home and shares something Christmassy from their culture. This gives us plenty of opportunities to get to know our new neighbors. Plus, the weather is relatively dry and warm, and we can explore the local nature.

Here are some photos from the Advent season in Kijabe.

School (online school) is now over and the kids have more free time. Here's a visit to the family of our housekeeper. Layla shows how to make chocolate pudding from avocados and cocoa powder.
There's always time for fooling around.
An example of evening Advent invitations. Americans like to watch Christmas movies.
Or a performance by the school orchestra.

The children produced a film and showed it to the adults.
Customer visits in nature are also a must.
