Bakery in Matathia

Last year we told you about our housekeeper, Mombi, and how we helped her build her own house. Before she came to us, she was desperate because she couldn't find enough work. When her husband's moped was totaled in an accident, the only source of income for the family of six disappeared. One day, Mombi showed up at our door, and we had the feeling she was meant to be our housekeeper.

She has now been working with us for over a year and has learned to bake and cook. Together, she and David began dreaming of opening their own bakery to create jobs in their village. When a small space became available right next to one of the main roads, we seized the opportunity and, with the help of a few generous donors, set up a bakery for her.

She now has daily customers who enjoy stopping by. Her husband takes over while she's away and handles the bookkeeping. Even though things could be a bit more strategic (and hygienic 😊) here and there, it's wonderful to see this business becoming her own.
